The SEOCA Project Annual Conference was held in Tashkent between 28-30 March 2011. Dr. KOYUNCU and Ms. SEVÜK of JeoDijital participated to the conference and made several presentations on satellite remote sensing, digital image processing technologies and EO.

GEO CAPACITY BUILDING INITIATIVE IN CENTRAL ASIA (SEOCA:) is a project that aims at improving the collaboration between Central Asia and Europe in the development and application of Earth Observation (EO) technologies. It is important to integrate the countries in Central Asia to the activities of Group on Earth Observations (GEO) since they are facing serious environmental problems. The main idea behind a global effort in earth observations is to protect our planet for next generations by monitoring it as a whole continuously, which makes it possible to notice environmental changes/threats and take the necessary actions on time.
GEO is a voluntary partnership of governments and international organizations that was established to make use of the growing potential in the area of Earth Observations. It provides a framework within which the partners can develop new projects and coordinate their strategies and investments. GEO has been coordinating efforts to build a Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) on the basis of a 10-year implementation plan for the time between 2005 and 2015.

The SEOCA Project, expected to make a significant contribution to the GEO, is supported by the EU Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). The project started on 1 March 2010, and will be completed by March 2012. The project is being carried out by 14 partners from 8 countries led by Technical University of Berlin. JeoDijital and TUBITAK Space are contributing to the SEOCA Project from Turkey.
